Anthony F. Oddo, DVM, MA

 

Tony Oddo received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Biology from Humboldt State University, Arcata, CA.  His graduate work was in Microbiology, as applied to the larger field of population-level fish and wildlife disease, with particular interest in wildlife reservoirs of domestic animal and human disease.  He authored papers published in the Journal of Wildlife Disease on Avian Chloera in wild waterfowl and Listeriosis in Roosevelt Elk.  Degrees in hand, Tony began the process of applying to Veterinary school, obtaining the clinical experience required by working in veterinary hospitals, and teaching Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology at Butte College, a community college near Chico, CA.

     Veterinary training leading to a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine was provided to Tony at the University of California, Davis.  With sights set on rural practice, Tony followed the mixed-animal tract as senior in clinics, with additional summer clinicals in Equine Anesthesia and Critical Care.

                 Upon graduation in 1985, Tony moved to Bend, OR.  He spent the first six months completing his Oregon licensing requirements, and early in 1986 he began his own practice as High Desert Veterinary, a mixed-animal mobile practice.  The current HDV facility was built in 1990 and originally served a thoroughly mixed caseload.  In 1996, Tony decided to focus the practice on dogs, cats and horses.  His special professional interests have evolved over the years, and generally lie in the areas of surgrery, dentistry, critical care, internal medicine and sports medicine.  As both a professional and recreation pursuit, Tony participated in Equine Endurance competition at the local, national and international FEI levels, and was licensed as an FEI judge in Endurance.

     One of the greatest attractions of Bend to Tony was the feeling of “Community” he found here. As a way to show his appreciation of, and commitment to, the Bend community, Tony has donated his time and resources to public organizations such as the Humane Society of Central Oregon, Deschutes County Sheriffs Office, Oregon State Police, Bend Police Department, The High Desert Museum, Central Oregon Community College, Bend-Lapine Schools, 4H, Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Jeannette H. Barkhurst, DVM

 

Raised in Southern Oregon, Jeannette moved to Bend in 1993, where she attended COCC for two years, while working as a Veterinary technician.  She attended Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2001.  She then returned to mixed animal practice in Central Oregon. 

     Jeannette has been the relief veterinarian at High Desert Veterinary since 2003, filling in for Dr. Oddo during vacations and conferences.  She returned to full time practice at the clinic in August 2008.

     Jeannette enjoys working with both small and large animals.  She has special interests in internal medicine and equine reproduction and genetics.  Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys time with family, her 5 labradors and chasing dreams of being a successful barrel racer.  She currently competes in divisional barrel races on her two gray Quarter Horse geldings.
