Ligament Surgical Repair

The Cranial Cruciate Ligament (a.k.a. Anterior Cruciate Ligament in human anatomic terms) is a cable-like structure that connects the Femur (upper long bone of the hind limb) with the Tibia (lower long bone of the hind limb) and is located within the stifle (knee) joint.  The function of the CCL is to resist Cranial Tibial Thrust (the forward movement of the tibia relative to the femur).  Injury to the CCL is one of the most common orthopedic injuries in dogs and cats, and can be caused in many ways

Ticks and Lyme Disease

The Lyme Disease bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi, is spread through the bite of infected ticks which are now being found in habitats where once they were not thought to be.  West of the Cascades and the Columbia Basin it is the Western black-legged tick that carries this bacterium, and a recent study in California has found it in more habitats than just wooded areas.  Ticks carrying the Lyme bacteria were found in a wide variety of habitats including the vegetative edges of California beaches.
